Greif can reveal many things we may have failed to see. When someone passes on into spirit our sense of needing control can become heightened, and we can feel panicked with the fragility of life. Some people may feel like they need to make the most of every precious moment, as this is all we really have. Others may feel guilt over not spending enough time with those they loved, and become flooded with memories of the past.
Grief can be a time where we allow ourselves to feel whatever arises & we are brought closer to so many others who were touched by the life of the person who passed away. Even those who struggle to show emotions can get caught within the emotions of those around them, and it becomes like ripple that flows into a river.
It is a time of coming together; putting aside any differences, disagreements or judgments. As the realisation kicks in that none of that really matters in the scheme of things. It is not about what a person has in their life, how rich they are or their social status. It makes you realise that it is all about the people who’s lives you’ve touched; the person you were, and the love you left behind on the earth. It can help us see the importance of our values – what we give our attention to and where our focus has been directed. We can see more & more what is truly important in our lives.
All we leave behind on the earth is our memories, the relationships we made and the little efforts we put in to make a difference & leave a bit of our touch behind. Did we take the time to tell our loved ones how we felt about them? Or maybe our presence was enough to show. Did we do what we wanted to deep in our hearts, or did we choose to follow the path others laid out for us? Did we acknowledge the person we were and feel proud of what we had achieved in our lives? Or were we caught up in trying to better & better where we were instead of just flowing down that river & being grateful for being here & doing so.
Did we savour those sweet moments with others and take the time to take in the world and all of its wonders? To feel the wind breeze gently against our skin, or feel the grass beneath our feet, or stare into the sunrise, marvelling at the array of colours that bind together to wake us in the morning.
Isn’t this what we’re living for? For the moments, the memories, the relationships, the connections, the experiences, the knowledge and the love of living.
Maybe beneath the fear of the not knowing, the uncertainty, the losing control– the truth of our existence lies. To live for love, as this is the connection we leave behind.
